According to the reports, the 52-year-old man, hailing from Karimganj district, was suffering from high fever and other complications for the past few days.
Confirming the report, principal secretary of Assam health department Samir Sinha said the man’s blood samples were tested at Silchar Medical College Hospital, and later he was reported novel coronavirus positive.
The top official of the state government further said that the man traveled to Delhi.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, “A 52-year-old person has been found positive for coronavirus and is Assam’s first COVID-19 patient. He is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College. His condition is stable.”
